Advantages of crepi
Render as façade finish
Crepi is the finish of a plaster system that we apply in layers on exterior walls. You can choose from different textures and colours, making crepi a flexible option for both renovation projects and new builds. On top of that, it offers many advantages:
- Protection against weather: crepi shields your façade from rain, wind and UV radiation, extending the lifespan of your walls.
- Insulation: when combined with insulation material, crepi improves your home’s thermal efficiency, leading to lower energy costs.
- Aesthetic variety: you can choose from a wide range of colours and textures, giving your walls a unique and attractive appearance.
- Breathability: especially mineral crepi is vapour-permeable, allowing moisture to escape from the walls and preventing mould growth.
Amazing results with crepi!
Crepi before and after
Types of crepi
Crepi façade, the different options
Synthetic crepi contains resins and other synthetic materials. At Cleys, we always use a silicone resin plaster. This plaster is flexible and breathable, less prone to cracking and provides excellent waterproofing. We apply it in four different layers. Especially in rainy Belgium, silicone crepi is highly recommended. It is also available in a self-cleaning version that washes itself when it rains.
Mineral crepi is made from natural materials such as lime and cement. This type of plaster is highly breathable, moisture-regulating and very resistant to mould and algae. We apply mineral crepi in a single layer of 12 to 15 millimetres. The biggest disadvantage of this type of crepi is that it is not water-repellent. It is therefore mainly used in countries with a warm climate.
Sleek and modern façade without grain structure
Smooth plaster
Smooth plaster is the perfect choice for those who love a modern, minimalist look. This finish is applied with very fine grains, giving your façade a completely smooth and even appearance. Ideal for homes with sleek architecture! Besides the aesthetic benefits, smooth plaster is also low-maintenance: dirt adheres less easily, keeping the façade cleaner for longer. Moreover, smooth plaster can be perfectly combined with external wall insulation, making your home not only beautiful but also energy-efficient.
Tough, industrial look with character
Concrete look
With a concrete-look finish, you give your façade a robust and industrial appearance. The finishing layer is applied in such a way that it mimics the texture and colour nuances of real concrete. This rougher finish exudes character and modernity, and fits perfectly with sleek or industrial architectural styles. Concrete look is not only aesthetically appealing but also practical: it is water-repellent, vapour-permeable and elastic, providing optimal protection of the façade against weather influences and minor cracking.
Insulation with crepi
Crepi as façade insulation
One of the biggest advantages of crepi is the possibility to combine it with façade insulation. This creates an insulated façade system that reduces heat loss and increases the energy efficiency of your building. By applying insulation material underneath the crepi, you benefit from a comfortable indoor temperature and lower energy costs.
400+ colours
Different crepi colours
Crepi is available in a wide range of colours, giving you the possibility to match your façade to your personal taste and the architecture of your building. Whether you choose neutral shades or bold colours, with crepi you give your façade exactly the look you want.
Cleaning crepi
Maintaining a crepi façade
Crepi is durable and has a long lifespan, especially when applied correctly according to best practices and maintained regularly. This façade finish requires little maintenance: periodic cleaning with water and a soft brush or a low-pressure cleaner is enough to make it look like new.
A well-applied crepi façade can last for decades. However, it is important to carry out regular maintenance to extend its lifespan. This includes cleaning the façade to remove dirt and deposits, and inspecting and repairing any cracks or damage.
Comparison of façade finishes
Crepi vs spray cork
Although crepi and spray cork are both popular choices for façade finishing, they have different characteristics. Crepi offers a wide range of colours and textures. Combined with façade insulation, it improves the energy efficiency of your building.
Spray cork, on the other hand, is flexible and more resistant to wear, less prone to cracking and has excellent insulating and breathable properties. Crepi or spray cork? The choice depends on your specific needs and preferences. Still not sure? Contact us for a non-binding appointment, we’ll help you with expert, tailored advice.
