Maybe you recognize it...
In summer, it becomes unbearably hot upstairs, while in winter it’s hard to keep the space warm. Or your energy bill keeps rising without a clear reason. Moisture problems or mold growth can also be a sign. In many cases, the cause is a roof that is no longer (or not properly) insulated.
💡‼️ Did you know that up to 30% of a home’s heat can be lost through a poorly insulated roof? That means not only less comfort, but also higher energy bills!
How do you recognize a problem? 🤔
A poorly insulated roof can often be recognized by:
- strong temperature fluctuations inside the house
- a hot attic or upper floor in summer
- heat loss in winter
- consistently high energy bills
- moisture or mold issues
Do you recognize one or more of these signs? Then it’s definitely worth having your roof thoroughly inspected!
Roof insulation for a pitched roof 🏡
For pitched roofs, there are several ways to insulate. A commonly used and efficient method is the sarking principle. In this case, the insulation is installed on the outside of the roof. On top of the roof structure, the insulation is placed first, followed by the underlay, the battens, and finally the roof covering.
The advantage of this approach is that you don’t lose any interior space and that thermal bridges are minimized as much as possible!
Roof insulation for a flat roof 🏡
For flat roofs, the approach mainly depends on the condition of the existing roof.
Is the roof still in good condition and free of ballast? Then the existing roof covering can often be retained and used as a vapor barrier. The insulation is placed on top, followed by a new finish such as EPDM or roofing.
If the roof is outdated or damaged, it is often better to fully renovate it. In that case, the existing roof structure is removed and rebuilt from the base, with a new insulation layer and finishing.
Every situation is different! 🫱🏻🫲🏼
No two roofs are the same. The right solution depends on several factors such as the age of the roof, its structure, and its overall condition.
That’s why it’s important to have your roof assessed by a specialist from Cleys. This way, you can be sure the chosen solution is technically sound and delivers the best long-term results!
Have your roof checked in time 🧐
Not sure if your roof is still properly insulated? Or are you experiencing one of the signs mentioned above? Then it’s wise to have it checked in time. This helps you avoid bigger problems and unnecessary energy costs.
