1. How long does a facade renovation take?

On average, a facade renovation takes 1 to 3 weeks.

The exact duration depends on:

  • the size of the house
  • the chosen finish
  • weather conditions
  • accessibility
2. Hoe verloopt een gevelrenovatie?

Een gevelrenovatie gebeurt meestal in drie stappen:

  1. Voorbereiding

3. How much insulation do you need and which materials are used?
3. How much insulation do you need and which materials are used?

In most cases, 10 to 14 cm of insulation is installed.

This ensures:

  • less heat loss: the heat you generate inside your home stays inside
  • more comfort: your indoor climate remains more stable
  • lower energy costs: which everyone appreciates 😄

How many centimeters of insulation do we recommend?

We recommend 10 cm if you want to benefit from Flemish government subsidies. But if you want to already meet the 2050 standards, we advise going straight for 14 cm of insulation (EPS).

Commonly used insulation materials:

  • EPS (for facade insulation)
  • PIR (for roof insulation)

With exterior facade insulation, the facade moves outward. As a result, some elements need to be adjusted:

Extras

Rainwater drains

  • They can be temporarily removed and reinstalled later, provided they are still in good condition.
  • Usually, they are replaced with new drains. This ensures proper drainage and results in a cleaner, more polished finish.

Window sills

  • When facade insulation is installed, these will always need to be extended or replaced. The existing window sills (in renovation projects) are usually too short. Since facade insulation must not be exposed, it must also be shielded from above.
  • The window sills also ensure proper water drainage. The larger the overhang, the better the drainage.

Sill

  • This protects the bottom of the facade, on the one hand against splashing dirt, but also against moisture problems.
  • You can finish the sill with a different material than the facade, or you can choose to extend the facade finish down to ground level.
5. Combine your renovations smartly
5. Combine your renovations smartly

When carrying out a facade renovation, smaller adjustments to the roof and/or windows are often needed as well. That’s why exterior facade insulation is often combined with roof insulation and replacing windows and doors.

If you are planning these works, we recommend doing them at the same time. This offers several advantages:

It helps prevent:

  • thermal bridges
  • additional work afterwards
  • poor connections

The exterior wall insulation will fit perfectly with the new window frames, which can also be set slightly forward so that there are no deep reveals. And this way, the exterior wall insulation can be perfectly coordinated with the new roof insulation, ensuring that the entire building envelope is protected.

Good preparation = faster results

Clear planning and the right choice of materials ensure a smooth execution and a long-lasting result!
